چکیده

The dynamic magnetic properties of MgO/Fe epitaxial thin films are investigated through a network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance in the 0–26-GHz range. The high-frequency response is measured for applied in-plane magnetic fields comparable to the fourfold magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the film, resulting in large-angle in-plane quasistatic motion of the magnetization. We show that the variation of the resonance frequency with both the amplitude and the direction of the external field is in good agreement with the ferromagnetic resonance equations, allowing precise determination of the anisotropy. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. Fe spin reorientation across the metamagnetic transition in strained FeRh thin films.

A spin reorientation accompanying the temperature-induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) to ferromagnetic (FM) phase transition is reported in strained epitaxial FeRh thin films. (57)Fe conversion electron Mössbauer spectrometry showed that the Fe moments have different orientations in FeRh grown on thick single-crystalline MgO and in FeRh grown on ion-beam-assist-deposited (IBAD) MgO. It was also obs...

First-principles calculations of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Fe1−xCox/MgO(001) thin films

The perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of Fe1-x Co x thin films on MgO(001) was investigated via first-principles density-functional calculations. Four different configurations were considered based on their ground states: Fe/MgO, Fe12Co4/MgO, Fe10Co6/MgO, and Fe8Co8/MgO. As the Co composition increases, the amplitude of PMA increases first from Fe/MgO to Fe12Co4/MgO, and then decreases in...

Growth and morphology of the epitaxial Fe(110)/MgO(111)/Fe(110) Trilayers

Growth and surface morphology of epitaxial Fe(110)/MgO(111)/Fe(110) trilayers constituting a magnetic tunnel junction were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). STM reveals a grain-like growth mode of MgO on Fe(110) resulting in dense MgO(111) films at room temperature as well as at 250 C. As observed by STM, initial deposition of MgO le...

Origin of Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy and Large Orbital Moment in Fe Atoms on MgO.

We report on the magnetic properties of individual Fe atoms deposited on MgO(100) thin films probed by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. We show that the Fe atoms have strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy with a zero-field splitting of 14.0±0.3  meV/atom. This is a factor of 10 larger than the interface anisotropy of epitaxial Fe layers on MgO and the la...

Interface and temperature dependent magnetic properties in permalloy thin films and tunnel junction structures.

Magnetization dynamics and field dependent magnetization of different devices based on 25-30 nm thick Permalloy (Py) films: such as single Py layers (Py/MgO; Py/CoFeB/Al2O3) and Py inserted as a magnetic layer in magnetic tunnel junctions (Py/CoFe/Al2O3/CoFe; Py/CoFeB/Al2O3/CoFe; Py/MgO/Fe) have been extensively studied within a temperature range between 300 K down to 5 K. The dynamic response ...
